Description of the Ideal Candidate
Ideally we are looking for an analytical chemist who has a "GC-MS" or similar designation on their resume.
Job Description:


Conduct laboratory experimentation to develop new products.  Work with vendors in US, EU, and China to conduct plant trials as applicable.
Provide assistance to the plants during new process start-ups and full-scale  implementation.       
Review new external/industry regulations (toy, chemical, arts & crafts) and assess their impact on our company's product portfolio.  
Continuously update technical knowledge in field of plastics, paperboard, wood and arts & craft materials, and how changes/innovation relate to the application of toy products and environmental life cycle assessment.
Work closely with Design & Development teams to plan and organize technical product development projects assigned.    
Work with raw material suppliers to develop an understanding of the materials and their applications to toy products and use/abuse conditions related to child play patterns.                                                                                  
Assist with product safety evaluation and risk assessment process when requested.              
                                                                                  
Manage technical documentation of test, toxicological, and regulatory compliance for toys, games, and licensed products.

           
Qualifications:


B.S. (4 yr College degree) in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering; MS preferred.
8-10 years chemical quality testing and/or research experience in a related consumer goods product development industry (Toy/Juvenile product industry strongly preferred)
Experience supporting product development engineering
Experience with analysis of consumer product materials (i.e., plastics, coatings, etc.) for restricted substances
Instrumentation - experienced in GC, GC-MS, FTIR, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS preferred
Toy Safety Regulatory knowledge - local, state, federal and global standards
Life Cycle assessment
Understanding of ASTM, ISO, and CEN processes
Technical writing - adept at understanding and translating to non-technical audiences
Effective verbal and written communication skills  to influence and negotiate outcomes
Decision-making -  integrates information from a variety of sources to arrive at optimal solutions
Project management -  establishes clear, realistic timelines and resource requirements for goal achievement; responds resourcefully and constructively to new demands, priorities, and challenges
Innovation - think creatively; generates innovative ideas and solutions to problems.
